This upside down view shows the butcher block top attached to the three recessed steel supports. The island legs are hollow: one leg for water for the prep sink, another leg for electricity for a plug and the garbage disposal, and a third leg for the drain. Remnants of the wood’s former life are visible in the form of dark nail holes on the sides and legs. These nail holes are not covered up or hidden, but rather celebrated, giving charm and character to this piece.
